    Victorian Antique Black Chantilly Lace Hand Painted Venus Mother of Pearl Fan
    This amazing antique Victorian era black Chantilly lace hand painted Venus mother of pearl fan dates from 1900. It is made of a sheer fine handmade black net Chantilly bobbin lace, with a floral foliage vine leaves, spiral scrolling designs and a cupid cherub outlined in cordonnet black threads with detailed shading effects, veined leaves. There is a beautifully hand painted fine black silk fabric insert of Venus Roman goddess of love, beauty, desire, fertility, prosperity lounging above in the clouds with birds flying underneath her. There are mother of pearl sticks and guards with engraved etched flowers silver gilt inlaid with paste gemstones, a silver loop ring and paste stone rivet holding the fan together at the bottom. This lovely large lace painted pleated folding fan measures 13 1/2 inches long and 26 inches wide when opened. It is in good condition, missing only two paste stones on the flower guard (see close-up). This is truly a rare and extraordinary piece of antique Victoriana fan art!
